6.7 CREWING EMERGENCIES
To describe activities and control necessary to ensure that, in the event of an emergency affecting seafarers supplied, personnel follow pre-defined instructions in order that a prompt, effective, and coordinated response may be provided.
An emergency within the meaning of this part of the procedure is defined as any unplanned situation where there is an intolerable risk to the seafarers, processed for service on board.
In this context, an emergency can occur in any of the following:
- On board the relevant vessel
- En route to the relevant vessel
- Ashore
In most cases, notification of the emergency will be received from the TPA, TSI, MSI, HSSEQ, or client.
On receipt of the information regarding an Emergency, the person receiving the information must inform the FLP Manager and the relevant Crew Manager.
The Crew Manager must then ensure that the information is reconfirmed preferably in writing, and advise the following:
- The Seafarer's next of kin (if applicable)
- The Company (if applicable)
- Other concerned parties e.g. National Flag Administration, P&I Club, local agents, Medical Advise Centres
The copy of the seafarer’s contract/letter of appointment and the copy of the seafarer’s pre-examination shall be made available as required.
Arrangements shall be made to maintain staff in the Office as required.
To ensure that information issued by the Company is consistent and accurate, only the Managing Director or nominated deputy has the authority to communicate with third parties. The Managing Director is responsible for handling all communications with the media. The Managing Director shall decide if the services of a media service organization are required.
